about

After the release of "Constructing The Perfect Pop Star" I received a student loan. I promptly spent all of the money on equipment. I purchased a Yamaha PSR-530 keyboard, a Yamaha MT4X 4-track cassette recorder, (the same one used to record all of the original Wu-Tang demos), an effects processor, some cables, headphones, and a microphone.

Feeling empowered by my ability to be somewhat self-sufficient with music creation I set out on a long journey of writing and recording new music. I was immersed in a scene brimming with strange talent and was fortunate to have some of these musicians contribute to songs on this album. It was a fertile and creative period for The Bassturd. I was gigging multiple times a month, meeting tons of musicians, and learning the various nuances of audio recording and sequencing.

After nearly 16 months I had amassed a mammoth collection of songs. I asked my friend Rob "Steely" Bennett if he would be interested in helping me mix the album, (as he had done on "Constructing The Perfect Pop Star"). As we were both in college and summer break had just begun, we spent dozens of hours working on bouncing all of the material from the 4-track into his D.A.W. We worked on overdubs, added effects, and labored over the most mundane details until we were both happy with the outcome.

"The Bangler" remains many people's favorite album by The Bassturd to this day. It has been out of print for many years, but is now here for all to enjoy for as long as the internet lasts. <3
